Exclamation IF INDEX MATCH formula help needed

    Hi everyone,

I have a workbook with two tabs.

Each tab has a table with four colums and the first column is a code. the first tab has codes for all the updated pipe products in UK and the second tab is my old copy of the product codes for my area (South East).

In short I need to update any codes for my area that have different values associated with them in the updated version (UK tab). So what I would ideally like to do is search the UK tab(1st tab) to find the codes I have in the South East (tab 2) and if the values in the cells associated with any code I have in South East are different, to show the code and it values for that product and the code and values I have for it, any codes that match with no differences I do not need to appear. (I can then update the rows on my SOuth East tab so they are correct).

My real database (database attached only an example) has thousands of records.

I am really stuck here and I need to know the step-by-step way to do it by 12 o'clock tonight for my shift. I have been working on this without success for 3 hours. Please help me understand what I need to do.

    Thank you, Keith

Re: HELP - I need to solve this problem this evening - complete novice is stuck...

Will you please attach a SMALL sample Excel workbook (10-20 rows of data is usually enough)? Please don't attach a picture of one (no-one will want to re-type all your stuff before starting).

    1. Make sure that your sample data are truly REPRESENTATIVE of your real data. The use of unrepresentative data is very frustrating and can lead to long delays in reaching a solution.

    2. Make sure that your desired solution is also shown (mock up the results manually).

    3. Make sure that all confidential information is removed first!!

    4. Try to avoid using merged cells. They cause lots of problems!

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment. So, to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: Just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.

    ALSO.

You must change the title if your thread. Your post does not comply with Rule 1 of our Forum RULES. Your post title should accurately and concisely describe your problem, not your anticipated solution.

Use terms appropriate to a Google search. Poor thread titles, like Please Help, Urgent, Need Help, Formula Problem, Code Problem, and Need Advice will be addressed according to the OP's experience in the forum: If you have less than 10 posts, expect (and respond to) a request to change your thread title. If you have 10 or more posts, expect your post to be locked, so you can start a new thread with an appropriate title.

To change a Title go to your first post, click EDIT then Go Advanced and change your title, if 2 days have passed ask a moderator to do it for you.

(This thread should receive no further responses until this moderation request is fulfilled, as per Forum Rule 7)

Re: IF INDEX MATCH formula help needed

First, try to check 5 cells combination of each code to match code in sheet UK. In cell H2:

Please Login or Register to view this content.
that show the code that is difference.
Then in next columns, try VLOOKUP to get other factors.

    Copy H2:L2 down.

    See attachment.

Re: IF INDEX MATCH formula help needed

Your post does not comply with Rule 8 of our Forum RULES. Do not crosspost your question on multiple forums without including links here to the other threads on other forums.

Cross-posting is when you post the same question in other forums on the web. The last thing you want to do is waste people's time working on an issue you have already resolved elsewhere. We prefer that you not cross-post at all, but if you do (and it's unlikely to go unnoticed), you MUST provide a link (copy the url from the address bar in your browser) to the cross-post.

Expect cross-posted questions without a link to be closed and a message will be posted by the moderator explaining why. We are here to help so help us to help you!

Read this to understand why we ask you to do this, and then please edit your first post to include links to any and all cross-posts in any other forums (not just this site).
