What I need is to check Column AR. I the column is blank I need "Functional" to appear in the blank cells except if columns Z to column AL contains grey italics text

1. formulas work on data, and color and font is cosmetic, not data, so a regular formula will not be able to ID grey or italic.
2. How is that color and font being applied? If manually, then you will need VBA. If though Conditional Formatting, then perhaps that same logic can be applied.
3. To best describe/show your problem, upload a small (clean) sample workbook (not a pic) of what you are working with, and what your expected outcome would look like.

I am attaching the example. Hoe it is sufficient.
The grey italics was applied manually.
