Conditional Formatting to change the style of the cell

    Hi,

Is there possible to change the style of a cell using excel formula? (Not VBA)

I would like to define for example if cell A1 has a value then value of C1 = A1 and the cell style to be 'Output' and if A1 is empty then C1= B1*B2 and cell style to be 'Calculation'

    Is it possible with excel?

    Thanks,

Re: Conditional Formatting to change the style of the cell

You can use Conditional Formatting to set your font, borders and background to mimic "Output" and "calculation."
See example. In the example, I defaulted it to "output" and used conditional formatting to mimic "Calculation."

Re: Conditional Formatting to change the style of the cell

The Styles are simply preset formatting that can be replicated through Conditional Formatting.

First, put this formula in C1:

    =IF(A1="",B1*B2,A1)

Then select C1 > Conditional Formatting > New Rule > Use a formula
    =A1<>""
Format: Bold Black Font > Outline Border > Light Grey Fill > OK > OK

Select C1 Conditional Formatting > New Rule > Use a formula
    =A1=""
Format: Bold Orange Font > Outline Border > Light Grey Fill > OK > OK
