Use Icon Sets to display difference between current months data and previous month

Hi all sorry if this has already been posted.

I'm currently working on a dashboard that I would like to automate. My goal is to have a column that use's Icon Sets to display the difference between this month's data and the previous month's. However I haven't the faintest clue where to begin. I am able to compare two fixed columns, but I would like these two columns to change depending on the date.

I'm not sure if this will make a difference but all the cells highlighted grey and green will contain formula's.

I've attached an example workbook to show the layout.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Not very elegant

    in D3

    Formula: copy to clipboard

If use column A as a helper

    In C5

    Formula: copy to clipboard
Please Login or Register to view this content.

    in A3

    =COUNTIF(D3:O3,">0")

    in A4

    Formula: copy to clipboard
Please Login or Register to view this content.

Both above give last non-blank column number relaive to column D
