Cell conditional format - Data bars

Good afternoon,

I can't get around this cell conditional format.

Basically, I want to calculate how did John do with respect to the average grade in his class.

As you can see in the attached file, I have two columns (C and D) with John's grade and the Average grade respectively. Then in column E I have the difference between them.

I would like cells in column E to be green if John did better than average (that is, if the value in cell E is positive) and red if he did worse than average (that is, if the value in cell E is negative). Additionally, I would like the cells to have a long bar if the difference was big and a small bar if the difference was small (E.g. If John got 100% and the average grade was 30%, I want the cell to be almost fully coloured in green. On the other hand, if John got 60% and the average grade was 58% I would like the bar to be very short).

Yes, that's more or less what I'm looking for.

The only problem I find, is that I wan't the bar to be red when the cell is negative (E.g. E7, E8, E11).

the bar is red on those cells, it is just hard to see since the negative quantity is so small

set the column width on column E to 70, and you can see the bars clearly

There's a -46 in cell E11 and a -70 in cell E12. The bars are still green. I also checked the rules in the conditional format of the cell and there's only one and it's green.

Sorry for the late response.

Yep, that's right. The reason i couldn't see it is that I'm using MS Excel 2007 and that feature is only available in the latest MS Excel versions.
