Date sort from one column and corresponding sum from another column for specific dates.

I have a worksheet with dates received in one column and pounds in another column. I want to list total pounds received each year in a space at the top of the worksheet. This is for two spaces for the years 2012 and 2013. Right now I'm trying to get 2012 to work using the SUMIF formula. The formula reads =SUMIF((A;A),"6/15/2012)12/31/2012)",(C:C))

All I get is a number 0.

try this =sumifs(c:c,a:a,"<="&"12/31/2102") it will sum everything in column C if the dates from column A are from 2012. That's assuming you don't have any 2011 data.
