    Compare values in a row

Hi, I am looking for a way to directly compare two values in a row. In my sheet I have a row of temperature average by week for a period of 50 years. I would like to count any significant weekly temp differences (where the weekly of say July 21st is more than 5 degrees above the average for example).

I do not need anything highlighted and don't need any details outside of a count of weeks that are significantly different. For example, say there were 13 weeks in 2012 that were hotter than the average, I just want a value returned of 13 for that year

    Thanks for looking

Re: Compare values in a row

I am not sure if that one works Conne, a visual count of 2014 show 0 results but the formula returns with 25, in 2012 there were 21 but it returns with a number of 24. I was trying some form of countif exactly like yours but could not get the +5 to work, I did not have the average in my formula

Sorry, I think I misunderstood. Try this array formula:

Confirm as an array with Ctrl-Shift-Enter.

Your 2014 data should count 2, on 9 Apr and 28 May.

Thank you very much Conne, that one works perfectly. BTW, I love Victoria, beautiful city located in an incredible area, was there 15 years ago for work, have not made it back yet

Re: Compare values in a row

One other question, if I wanted to go the other direction and count any weeks that are more than 5 degrees cooler than the average. I tried to just switch the formula to:

but it results in a count of the entire range. When I evaluate the formula, all results are displayed as true. I have tried various other changes but none are correct. The closest I can get is >-5 but that does not work for all series in the sheet
