Excel sheet is locked for editing by "another user"

We have a shared Excel sheet saved on the network. No one is opening the excel sheet however when we open it the following error appears:
Excel sheet is locked for editing by "another user"

We know that no one is accessing the shared file.
The workaround is to ask our administrator to disconnect the open file on the network user computer management - Open files

Please let me know how to fix this. I have looked up this problem on the internet but have found no solution

If you see this select 'Notify' as the program still has this program running by another user.

I find that this prompts it to close & notify you that it ready for you to open exclusively.
Remember you are unique, like everyone else

This file is definitely not open by any user's PC. I killed the Excel process on the user's PC's who use this shared file to ensure that no one is accessing it however i can see that the file is open on the network when i use the computer managemen -> open sessions console. So as a workaround i disconnect the open file from the open sessions console. What is the permanant fix to this.

I'm not sure, I'd recreate the file & save it to the Network drive without the shared feature.

I've had this happen when a file is being used as a linked table in an Access database. Not sure if this applies to you, but sounds similar. If someone is running the report that uses the linked table it becomes "locked".
Don't forget to ☆ me if I helped you!

We have this issue in our workplace. I have found that, instead of double-clicking on the filename to open the file, you should right-click on the filename, and then select 'open', or click the 'open' button. This has completely solved the problem for me. I want to say I googled it to find that solution, but I can't find the same information when I google it now.
