Conditional format using icon sets to compare two columns

If you have two columns (lets say E and F) and you want to use the icon set to conditionally format column F based on whether it is greater or less than E, what are the settings to do this?

I tried what I thought would work and excel complained that I could not use relative references with icon sets.

    this is in excel 2010

    Hi,

Yes, if you try to apply "Conditional Formatting" with Icon Sets in column F when you have data in column E & F, you would get relative reference error. However, if you add a new column to calculate the difference between them and apply Icon sets on that it should work.

    See the attached file.

Re: Conditional format using icon sets to compare two columns

I am a little surprised it doesn't allow me to do it in the same cell,
but this can give me the same effect.

Thanks, marking the call as solved.

If you want something done right... find a forum and ask an online expert.

I suggest you start a new thread and upload a file with an example of what you have so far and the result that you want.
Then one of us should be able to sort you out.

(to upload a file click go advanced and look for the text that says "manage attachments" when you brows to a file and upload it it will put that in the message and we will be able to see it.

But don't do that here in this thread - start a new post of your own this will be better for you and more in line with forum rules.
