    Conditional Formatting - EQUAL

    Hi guys,

I've been searching for appropriate thread but couldn't find it. I have a problem with conditional formatting as follows:

    - Is it possible to make conditional formatting like if we have equal cells between each other, highlight the cell with green color. So, what I mean is that conditional formatting works like EQUAL TO but I do not have values for comparison. Cells for comparison are between each other. That means that if we have for example cells in first raw A1=F1=W1, highlight them with green color.

    Can anyone help?

    Re: Conditional Formatting - EQUAL

Select all the cells (rows/columns) that you wish to compare, starting with Cell A1.

Then, in Conditional Formatting, use the Formula:
    Formula: copy to clipboard

    and choose your formatting.

Any duplicates (or multiple occurrences) will be highlighted

    Re: Conditional Formatting - EQUAL

    Thanks for your reply, TMS.

I've solved it but not with your formula. I've tried with your formula but couldn't solve it. Then, I've seen option to make New Rule for Conditional Formatting. If we make new rule, we have an option 'Format if cell is unique or duplicate'. With this option is possible to do it.

However, to raise up this task, do you have any idea to do following:

    - Lets say that we have cells A1, B1, C1, D1, E1, F1. And values in the following cells are equal A1=B1=F1 and C1=D1. Is it possible to conditionally format this situation like A1,B1,F1 to be darker green and C1,D1 to be lighter green because in first point we have three cells equal and in second two (just to mark different groups of equal cells).

    Re: Conditional Formatting - EQUAL

You could use two or more different Conditional Format conditions with different break points. For example:
    Formula: copy to clipboard

    and
    Formula: copy to clipboard
Please Login or Register to view this content.

However, it would probably be better and more generic to use a Graded Color Scale. Then you get a different colour for the different levels.

    See the attached example.

    Re: Conditional Formatting - EQUAL

This appears to work using 2 rules:

Enter this and format light green
    Formula: copy to clipboard
Please Login or Register to view this content.

    Applies to: =$A$1:$B$10,$E$1:$F$10

Enter this and format dark green
    Formula: copy to clipboard
Please Login or Register to view this content.

    Applies to: =$C$1:$D$10

    Re: Conditional Formatting - EQUAL

    Example for formatting.xlsxGuys, guys, guys...

all above is cool for particular cells. Thank you for your solution, I haven't used digital logic in Excel till now.

However, lets rise up a this situation and make universal solution for this point. What will we do if we have basically matrix (rows and columns) where we should make same algorithm of formatting? Please find attached example for formatting and please give me extensive explanation. Please note that I am not Excel professional.

Not sure what you are asking that is different. The blank columns are not relevant as far as I can see. The techniques suggested ignore blanks.

    Yeah TMS, you are right.

But please explain me what to do what I have for example 300 rows? Does it mean that I have to select/copy/paste formula for each row or there is some easier solution?

    Re: Conditional Formatting - EQUAL

    Dear guys,
I see that maybe I am not clear. Please find attached original file for the analysis. So basically I have 6 groups of values. Each group has the same title rows (highlighted with yellow color). Now, I need conditional formatting of the corresponding columns: comparison of d1 with d1 of each group (ROW BY ROW), then b with b (SAME), c1 with c1 (SAME), etc. BUT, Important is that there is NO mixing between columns. I mean d1 MUST NOT be mixed with e.g. c1 and similar, only corresponding of the other group.

This is the problem that I have guys and I really don't know how to do this on the easy way.

    Please help.

    Re: Conditional Formatting - EQUAL

Do all 6 D1s have to be equal or are you looking for duplicates within each row for those values? I'm totally confused by this.
