    Signature in Excel 2013

    Hello

I have added a signature field (signature line) but after that when I double click it, it wants me to get a digital ID from a Microsoft Partner. If I say yes it takes me to websites where people would like to take my money to solve my problem. If I say no, then no other option is available. When I read up on this I keep seeing where you are supposed to be able to double click on the signature line and either type your name in or insert a signature image like you can in Acrobat. What is the trick here?

    Thx
    Dave

51 views and zero replies? Must be a toughy! Has no one else run into this problem? I'd pay to have someone solve this but I already tried this with http://www.experthelp.com/ to the tune of $37.00 and have them stumped too.

I have never had the need for a digital signature, but here is what MS has to say

    I hope this is helpful

    Re: Signature in Excel 2013

Thanks Alan but been there and done that. We use Excel in the creation of our inspection reports for many reasons: It does our graphs for fire pumps; it holds code references within the comments to cells
containing questions for our inspectors to review, we use the drop down menus for answers; data validation in there too.... just a great program. But it has this glitch in regards to signatures. If you follow the instructions in the link you provided (which is also the link provided by Excel 2013 when you click the ? link on the Signature Setup box), you get to a point in "Sign the signature line in Word or Excel" item 1 where it says right click and then Item 2 "From the menu, select SIGN" ... THIS is where things break down. On both my desktop running 7 Pro / Excel 2013 and my Surface Pro running Win 8 and Excel 2013 I get the following pop-up only: Get a Digital ID - "To sign a Microsoft Office Document you need a digital ID, would you like to get one from a Microsoft Partner now?"

    Sign.PNG

If you select Yes it links you to a bunch of companies that will sell you digital ID services. If you select No, the box closes and there are no other options.

Now I can simply insert a JPEG file of my signature into the spreadsheet and line it up where our signatures are supposed to be, but it seems that another option exists / has existed that is similar to the way Acrobat or Bluebeam Revu allows you to create and insert digital signatures that have a time / date stamp and that don't permit you to alter the document afterwards without a message to that effect being displayed (That an alteration has occurred). I have asked the professionals at Experthelp.com as i have mentioned and the same thing has happened to them, so something has changed between the time the instructions were written as above and now.

As I indicated, I have not had a reason to employ this function. I am going to reach out to our panel of Gurus to have them look at this thread and see if any one there has a solution for you.

Thanks Alan, that would be appreciated. I have an older computer running Excel 2010 and it seems to work fine, like the instructions say. This seems to me to be some kind of marketing scheme by Microsoft and 'Partners'.

An invisible digital signature assures the authenticity and origin of a document. If you are unsure on how add a digital signature to a workbook (like I was) I found the following guidance really helpful. https://www.trainingconnection.com/e...signatures.php
