    Sort Data

    Hi all,

I have three columns of data: 1. Material number 2. Customer 3. Quantity sold

In column 1 you can have the same material number listed over and over again. I want to produce a new colmun with the part number and the Total number of parts sold.

Column 1 is mixed with a vast number of parts, so i want it to list each part and total quantity sold.

    Thanks,
    Matt

    Re: Sort Data

A pivot table might be the answer. You don't have to create a new column or make calculations. Totals for each part with parts sorted in order should be easy using a pivot table but a good sample of your data is important to have in order to be sure of the best course of action.

Attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

    Remember to desensitize the data.

    Hi,

Copy the column A values to a new column, select the column and then pick 'Remove Duplicates' in the Data Tools area of the main Data menu item in the ribbon.
Assuming this new column is D with the originals in A:C then in E1 enter the formula

    Formula: copy to clipboard

    Use pivot table.

Go to Insert Tab > Pivot Table > Pivot Table > Ok > Drag and paste the material number to Row Label > Drag and paste the Quantity Sold to Values.
