    Formatting cells to show precision as typed in (including trailing zeroes)

    I need to type numbers in excel sometimes only 1 sometimes 1.00 or sometime 1.0000
    so when I type the 1.0000 by default it takes 1 I need to format cell every time
    is there anyway to solve if I type 1.0000 it should come 1.0000 if I enter 1.0 it should come 1.0

    pls help

    use the following format

    in the HOME tab there is a NUMBER section
    select the (,) and the word CUSTOM will appear in the drop down list
    you can adjust the number of decimals using the arrows on the right -> means less , <- to increase the number of decimals

    suppose if I type 1 it will show 1 or 1.00?
    if two decimal is set

    it will show 1.00 if yo set a 3 decimal i will show 1.000

    You can try formatting your cells as "Text"

    But be aware: the cell values will be treated as text, not numbers.

    Are the numbers you are entering all in the same column or different columns?
    Why do you need different precision (number of decimal places) for whole numbers?

    Although your title was not bad enough to break a rule, I updated it to give a better idea of what you are asking about. "Formatting cells" is a very generic title.
