    Formatting cells as time

I have a sheet which shows hours worked in a month and I am having trouble working with the time. The hours are displayed as: 168.00 and if I use the data in another sheet they show as: 03/01/1900 20:00:00.
I have tried to use a custom formatting h:mm and similar with no luck. How can I get this data to work well?

Assuming your data are true date/time serial numbers, your custom format should change the display. Exactly what are you getting with that data and that format? I would expect that it should show 20:00 or 8:00 (depending on whether it is doing a 24 hour clock or 12 hour clock) -- does it show something else? Or, perhaps, you are looking for elapsed hours and not "clock" hours. the format code for elapsed hours uses brackets [h]:mm.

When I was first learning Excel, this was one of my most frequently referenced help files -- https://support.office.com/en-us/art...c-aa8bbff73be2 For the question at hand, spend some time with the "guidelines for date and time" formats a little over half way down.
