Excel file too big

The excel spreadsheet I use at work is so big when I try to apply filters it says "will take more than 60 secs" along those lines.

Sometimes it freezes or takes way longer than 60 secs.

Is there anything I can do to eliminate or help this? I'm trying to implement new ways to add formulas to this big sheets but this is kind of a road block.

Try sorting it on the column you are going to filter first.
convert the data into a table (if it is not already one)
Add the table to your data connections. This forces Excel to put it into RAM when doing computations. (Hope you have enough RAM)
Save the workbook as a .xlsb file. Operations on binary files tend to be faster.

How many columns and rows are you highlighting before applying the filters

What sort of formula are in the range you are trying to filter?
