    Creating a line graph

    Hi,

    I have the following spreadsheet:

    Capture.JPG

I want to create a line chart with RunDateTime along the bottom and run_duration up the side but have a line for each JobName. Can this be done and if so how?

    Cheers
    Paul

    Here's how I think I would proceed:

    1) Use a pivot table to rearrange the data. RunDateTime will be the row labels, JobName will be the column labels, and run_duration will be the values. (http://www.excel-easy.com/data-analy...ot-tables.html if you need help learning basic pivot tables)
    2) With the pivot table created, insert a scatter chart (since I assume you want to include the time information as part of the chart X values) using the procedures described here (http://peltiertech.com/regular-chart...-pivot-tables/ ) to create a "normal" chart from pivot table data.

    Re: Creating a line graph

A PivotChart can help you make sense of this data. While a PivotChart shows data series, categories, and chart axes the same way a standard chart does, it also gives you interactive filtering controls right on the chart so you can quickly analyze a subset of your data.
    Click anywhere in the data.

On the Insert tab, in the Charts group, pick Recommended Charts.

On the Recommended Charts tab, pick any chart with the PivotChart icon PivotChart indicator button in the top corner. A preview of your PivotChart appears in the Preview pane.
Once you find the PivotChart you like, click OK.

When you create a Pivot Table click anywhere in the PivotTable to show the PivotTable Tools on the ribbon.

    Click Analyze > PivotChart.
In the Insert Chart dialog box, click the chart type and chart subtype you want. You can use any chart type except an XY (scatter), bubble, or stock chart.
    Click OK.
In the PivotChart that appears, click any interactive control, and then pick the sort or filtering options you want.
