Time difference calculation adding 12 hours?

    Hi,

I'm trying to do just a simple time elapse between two times =SUM(H3-G3) in time format, and the answer I'm getting is the correct minute length but adds 12 hours on too? I have tried doing =SUM((H3-G3)-12) but that hasn't worked, can anyone help?excel time difference.jpg

Change the custom formatting of your result cell to hh:mm:ss without the AM/PM bit.

    edit - ignore

if you change the format of all cells to general
    what are the numbers

    should be
    i3
    0.034722222

    g3 & h3
    0.335416667 0.370138889

    otherwise formatting issue

Re: Time difference calculation adding 12 hours?

Let me make a comment on it
I shall confess that for me it was some time ago puzzling that 12:52 AM is just 52 minutes after midnight (in my simple logic it shall be 00:52 AM, but somehow in UK it is not written like that).

So indeed just 24h formatting as suggested by AliGW: "hh:mm:ss" will do the job.

And note for the possible future applications (or for instance for adding up such times, etc) if it is possible that a value will be greater than 24 hours, use:
    "[hh]:mm:ss" format

    Digging a bit more:
As for the formula, you probably can use just
    Formula: copy to clipboard

Or if it is just to be directly compared with column F, where you written 3/4 hour (0.75) then formula shall read:
    Formula: copy to clipboard
Please Login or Register to view this content.
and formatiing for this cell shall be general
    or may be:
    Formula: copy to clipboard
Please Login or Register to view this content.
to avoid problems when column H is still empty after filling column G
