I work for a research house which produces word document publications contain a large number of linked charts (ranging from 10 to 100+ per report). We insert these using the 'paste as link>microsoft excel object' function, and the excel workbooks are stored in a shared drive which offices all over the world can access.
We have tried the following to stop the word documents automatically trying to open the excels every time the word doc. Is opened:
1. Setting the chart links to manual
2. Setting the chart links to ‘locked’
3. Deselecting 'update links automatically when opens’ option in file>options>advanced>general.
But the word documents still try to open all the excels automatically when the word doc is opened which can take over an hour for larger documents.
Is there another setting I could try? (We use Microsoft Office 2013 64-bit SP1.)
