Does the use of a + after an = sign in Excel have any bearing on the final result?

I keep seeing files that have functions preceded by =+ (e.g., =+Subtotal..., =+SUM....) and am unsure if that is simply left over from some previous practice in Excel or if the + is significant.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

this is old school and it is totally unnecessary
