Help with password protecting shared workbook

    Hi,

I'm trying to password protect a shared excel workbook (first time setting it up) and i'm experiencing a strange error. (Excel 2013)

I press the protect shared workbook button, set the password as 123, confirm it as 123. After this i can press unprotect shared workbook type the password 123 in and it will unprotect it fine.

However, after i've set the password, if i close and reopen the part, i can no longer unprotect it with the password 123, it tells me that the password supplied is not correct.

Am i doing something wrong here?

    Thanks!

    Hi,

If you're actually using 123 as your test password.

Are you typing it in from the Top row of the Keyboard, or are you using the Number Pad, if so, check "Num Lock"

Re: Help with password protecting shared workbook

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply, i am using the numbers from the top row, it's not a case of me typing the wrong password hence why i am using 123.

Also if numlock was not on and i had tried it from those keys i would be pressing end, down, pg down, which wouldn't even type a password.

    Anyone have any other ideas?

Re: Help with password protecting shared workbook

Can you attach a workbook that is showing the issue?

Make sure that all confidential data is removed or replaced with dummy data first (e.g. names, addresses, E-mails, etc.).

Unfortunately the attachment icon doesn't work at the moment, so to attach an Excel file you have to do the following: just before posting, scroll down to Go Advanced and then scroll down to Manage Attachments. Now follow the instructions at the top of that screen.
