Sorting of chart types in a combo chart

    Hi,

I have a pivot table and a corresponding pivot chart. The chart is of type combo. One of the series in the chart is of type "Line with Markers", and the remaining are "Clustered column".

I have used custom sorting (by a custom list) so that the data appears in the intended order in the pivot table columns. However, since the series types are different in the chart, the sorting of the data only seems to work for each data series type individually.

What I would like to achieve is that the series of type "Line with markers" appears as the first series. Now it appears as the last. I guess it's because C in "Clustered column" is alphabetically before the L in "Line with markers".

See the attached file to understand my problem. Anyone knows if it can be done?

    Best regards,
    David

The order of the legend is based on a combination of Series Order, Series Type and Primary/Secondary axis.
You can only change the order, via series order, within fixed groups.

If you really need the legend reordered then you can do it by,

adding records to pad the Specification data point.
change Pad and Specification series to Stacked Column
move all other series to secondary axis
delete secondary axis so they all share the same scale

format pad series to have no fill
format specification series to red, change column Gap to zero

Remove custom sort order and just sort A-Z

Andy, thanks for the neat solution! It seems nothing is impossible in Excel, it's only a matter of figuring out the how (which could have taken me hundred years in this case).

    Best regards,
    David
