Question Option to display date value as "THU, July 21, 2022" instead of "Thursday, July 21, 2022"?

I formatted my cell using the second Date option in the list of standard options, which includes the day of the week at the beginning.

But I would rather have the day of the week abbreviated instead of spelled out fully.

I tried going into the Custom category and changing "dddd" to "ddd", which from what I read, should abbreviate the day of the week, but it does not.

Is there a way to do this?

    Administrative Note:

Members will tailor the solutions they offer to the version (NOT release number) of Office (Excel, NOT Windows) that you have. Please check that your forum profile is up-to-date in this respect. If you aren't sure, in Excel go to File | Account and report what it says below the MS logo at the top of that page. If your version is for Mac, please also state this. Thanks.
