How to get the average bin from a set of data

    Hi,

I have the following dataset. I want to find the average bin of the two datasets to compare.

The bins are 0-9 as shown in the photo with values in each bin. The two datasets are "O" and "N".

    data.jpg

So between the "O" and "N", more values are in the 0-2 range compared to the "O" dataset.

How can I best project this as an improvement in the N dataset?

Say something like average bin value for O dataset is 5-6 and average value for N dataset is 2-3?

Is there any tool in Excel that will help with this?

    Thanks.

There are probably multiple possible tools to help, but you need to understand enough of the details of the analysis in order to choose which tools/functions will be useful. For example, you talk about wanting to find the "average bin" with no indication of what "average bin" means in your analysis. The analysis seems to center on what average bin means, how you intend to calculate it, then using that to show that there is some kind of significant difference between N and O. Without knowing the conceptual and computational details of this analysis, it is difficult to know which of Excel's tools/functions to recommend.

Take the median number between each bin, multiply it by the current representation (%) of each bin, and take the sum of the results. example: If the true data set is for example (5,7,6,4,8,6,2,3,7,6) with a true average of 5
