Converting multiple hyperlinks into URLs at the same time

    Hi,

I would really appreciate it if somebody could help me. The version of Excel that I use is the online version.

In cells A2-A11, I have copied and pasted some headlines from a news website. Each headline is a link to a news article.

So for example, in cell A5, the headline is "Spielberg: I regret impact of Jaws on sharks", which was a headline on the BBC website today. When I click on this headline, both on the website and in the Excel document, it takes me to the following webpage: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-64011888

So at present, I can only see the headline in cell A5 (the URL appears when I hover over the headline with the cursor).

What I would like is for the URL to appear in cell B5...that could either mean on its own or as part of a larger piece of text.

I have provided three examples on rows 2-4.

I would like to know how to do the same for rows 5-11.

I already know how to convert hyperlinks into URLs one at a time, but what I would like to know is how to convert multiple hyperlinks into URLs at the same time.

If it makes it any easier, I don't mind if the hyperlinks are converted straight into URLs in column A, in which case there would be no need for column B.

Thanks if you are able to help.

    Try this:

One spreadsheet to rule them all. One spreadsheet to find them. One spreadsheet to bring them all and at corporate, bind them.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but a sample spreadsheet is more likely to be worked on.

    Hi dflak,

First of all, thanks very much for helping me.

My knowledge of Excel is not the greatest so could you please explain what I should do with the formula you have provided me with.

Presumably, I should copy it and paste it somewhere in the Excel document?

For the record, the Excel document I provided you with is just a sample document that I used as an example. In the Excel document in which I need to do this for real, there are over a million hyperlinks that needs to be converted into URLs.

    Thanks.

In general to run a macro you can go to VIEW > Macros and follow the menu and select the macro to run.

However, here is a version that ties the macro to a button. Put what you want to "translate" in column A then click the button.

Re: Converting multiple hyperlinks into URLs at the same time

    Hi dflak,

    Thanks again for your help.

In order to click the button, I need to somehow open the Excel document you have edited for me in the online version of Excel. This is because I am unable to edit it myself unless I buy Microsoft 365. I just don't have the money at the moment to fork out for the paid version.

Is there a way of opening it up in the online version? Copying and pasting the columns and rows into the online version doesn't work because it is unable to copy and paste the button.

Alternatively, could you tell me how to create my own button in the online version if it is possible and not too complicated to explain.

    Thanks.

Re: Converting multiple hyperlinks into URLs at the same time

    Hi again,

I have managed to open the edited Excel document in the online version of Excel but the button you have created for me does not show up.

So I assume that this particular method is not something that can be achieved by using the online version of Excel.

Do you know any ways in which a solution to my problem can be achieved by using the online version of Excel?

    Thanks.
