Colour formatting based on a a different cell

    Afternoon,

I'm struggling colour coding cells based on values, I can colour code the cell with the value in, but I want the value to cause a different cell to colour code.

The column I want to change colour is column A.
If there is a Y in column AH, then I want the corresponding cell in column A to turn green.
If there is a Y in column AG, then I want the corresponding cell in column A to turn purple.

Any ideas how this can be done?

    Many thanks

Use Conditional Formatting. Something like this.

aSSUMING THAT YOU WANT TO CF RANGE a2:a1000, highlight this range and use this formula.

    Formula: copy to clipboard

How can you use Conditional Formating.

--In Excel 2007 and 2010, Conditional Formatting is in the Styles group on the Home tab. In Excel 2003, Conditional Formatting is on the Format menu. See here how you can work using CF.
