    highlight cell

I have a spreadsheet file for my monitoring of shipments from abroad and I was hoping someone could help me out for what am trying to do. I have attached a simple workbook.
    1. Is it possible to highlight cell A (light Green) if put the word "closed" in cell Y
    2. Is it possible to highlight cell A (light Red) if put the word "OPEN" in cell Y

    Re: highlight cell

Yes. You need to set up two conditional formatting rules using these fromulae:

=$Y2="CLOSED" - set the cell fill to green
=$Y2="OPEN" - set the cell fill to red

Copy the formatting to other cells whose colour needs to change.

Try it yourself first. If you don't, you won't learn anything.

    Re: highlight cell

    As Ali suggested.

Select the whole date and then press ALT->O->D, you will get a window naming conditional formating rule manager -> click on new rule you will get new formatting rule->select the last option called use as formula to determine which cells to format-> put =$Y2="CLOSED" this formula into format values where this formula is true-> now click on format and format cells as you want then apply and then ok.

Now the conditional formatting will work.

    Check the attached file.

    Re: highlight cell

Select the whole row no 2 then copy that one, now select the whole data where you need conditional formatting then go to paste special and select formatting then ok.

    Hope this will help you
