Can't click into VBA editor

This keeps happening to me. I'm editing & running the code and suddenly I can't click into the VBA editor into the code I've been working on.
I can't select a sheet.
I can't select a module.
I can't type into the immediate window.
I can't type or select any code.

All the work I've done is suddenly not accessible to me.

if the vb program is running, then you cant do anything until it stops.

if it is a large workbook, then it will look like its frozen until the code stops.

There is NO code running.

I can run code from the worksheet buttons but I still can't select the editor.
