F8/F5, etc. not working in VBA editor (HP Windows 7 machine)

I began working on a HP Windows 7 machine with Excel 2010. I am unable to get time-saving F8, F5, Ctrl + F8, etc. keys to function.

I taken online suggestions to make sure the function keys are enabled in the bios and explored the options under the ; however, for some reason, my function keys do not seem to work in VBA.

A clue may be that when I hit F5, an Internet explorer browser opens so I am wondering if there are Windows 7 settings that are overriding something in the editor.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Hi joe31623,

I had a similar problem with my HP laptop using Windows 8.1. HP programs some special function keys to have special meanings. You have to go into the BIOS (not difficult) to disable the HP definitions. The HP settings take precedence over settings that some programs use.

Thank you... when I came across that link earlier, I misunderstood that to mean that should be enabled rather than disabled until I took a look at your post.
