Reference data in a closed workbook!!!!

    Hi Everyone,

So here is my issue. I am working with total cost model and need to input some data configurations from another workbook of just data I got from a query. I am trying to create a macro which when activated will fill in the specific range in the cost model with a range of data from the query workbook. The data in the query workbook will change and update as time goes on so it is really useful to have this macro work while the data workbook is closed. I was able to make a macro that worked while the data workbook was opened but I have not been able to figure out a way of doing this while the data workbook is closed. I will attach the code I used to do this below. Any advice helps.

    Thank you. :-)

Your post does not comply with Rule 3 of our Forum RULES. Use code tags around code.

    Posting code between
Please Login or Register to view this content.
tags makes your code much easier to read and copy for testing, it also maintains VBA formatting.

Highlight your code and click the # icon at the top of your post window. More information about these and other tags can be found here

Re: Refrence data in a closed workbook!!!!

I think you definitely have to open the workbook.

    EDIT:
I did a little research, it can probably be done with some special knowledge. I guess ADO or some other database type syntax works, but it's over my head.

I'm sure a guru will probably post something.

Re: Reference data in a closed workbook!!!!

Do yur really need VBA for this? If all you are doing, is pulling data from the same file each time, you may be able to do this with a regular formula?
    1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
