Why is weekday function working like this

Hi,

I have the following dates
5/10/2016
5/11/2016
5/12/2016
5/13/2016
5/14/2016
5/15/2016
5/16/2016


When i calculate the weekday for the above dates i get the following

6
7
1
2


does anyone know why this is? From the literature online i thought sunday was 1, monday was 2 ...etc....

If you use without argument then yes, sunday is 1 and 15.05.2016 was a sunday.
