"Initialization of the Data Source Failed" in excel 2013 when transporting file

    Hi guys,

I hope you can help me. I have made a dashboard function in excel with more then a 100 pivots for visualizations. The pivots are linked to two tables, in which one has been created using "power query". However, no external links have actually been created to the file. All tables are in the excel file. The file works perfectly on my computer. I can rename it, move it, but when i transport it to another computer it fails to work.

When i disconnect the query to a normal table the problem still exists, indicating that this is probably not the issue. I have added a mini file with one pivot and a small table as an example.

    Sheets explanation:
    Outlet data = Original data
Brands query = Power query link with table outlet data
General = Visualization sheet with filters
General tables = Sheet with pivot tables

Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys!!

    Hi

Does the other computer have the same version of Power Query installed and loaded?

    Hi!

So i tried it on 2 computers. One with excel 2010 and power query, the other with excel 2013 without power query. Both didn't work. (file was created on excel 2013). I also tried to disable the query and make it into a normal table when transferring the file. Which disables the query part completely. However, still no luck transferring the file.

    Let me know your ideas!

You have 7 data connections in that workbook- including one to the data model, which will not work in 2010. You would need at a minimum to remove those connections.

Yes that is correct. However these are connections within the workbook. Since i connect between the original data and the data from the query which are both in the workbook.

My question is thus how to disconnect the connections without disconnecting the connections?

Yesterday i tried on 3 computers with excel 2013. And somehow the file did work on one computer (not linked to mine). It is very strange to me!

If you used Power Query for the connections, they will only work on machines with the same Power Query version, and the same with the data model usage.

I thought so too! So i disconnected the powerquery part in the model. But that did not work! The laptop where it did work on allows me to use the filters and pivottables. However, also there i can't seem to refresh the data. That is not a problem perse, but does show where the problem sits. i believe its with the "ThisWorkBookDataModel" connection that is linked to my computer. However it seems to be corrupted somehow, and i can't seem to remove it without removing all connections to my pivot tables.

I quickly made a new file. No query this time. The only thing i did is create a relationship between two tables. This seems to be the problem causer. However i can't work without it.

They did not say life was easy!
