Excel question for data association from a table for new data association?

Hi,

I have a ton of DNS names for a lot of computers (servers, routers, switches, firewalls, etc.) in 1 spreadsheet, and I need to associate those names to IP addresses.

There are 2 spreadsheets I have at the moment.

One consists of the DNS name of the devices in many worksheets, but no IP addresses.
Other consists of both DNS name and IP address (so it is associated already).

But I need to somehow populate the 1st spreadsheet with the IP address (alongside the DNS name).

There are around 4000 devices listed, and those DNS names are all over the place.

Ideally, I'd like to have a column inserted adjacent to DNS name, with correct IP address.

Any ideas?

Hi meameame,

This sounds like a VLookup or Index-Match type of answer solves your problem. If you could attach two spreadsheets with some sample data, we could show you the formula, or you could research VLookup and Index Match between two workbooks.

Attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

Remember to desensitize the data.

Click on GO ADVANCED and then scroll down to Manage Attachments to open the upload window.
