Automatically Update External Links

Hi guys,

I was wondering whether someone can help me with the below.

Basically I have a workbook and this is linked to 5 other workbooks.

I would like to have a macro which would automatically update all external links to the other 5 workbooks.

is this possible even if the other 5 workbooks are closed?

Hi AliGW, yeah your right. As I have a deadline which is killing me. Would be great to hear some suggestion. Any ideas please ?

how exactly are the workbooks linked to each other? if you are using a microsoft excel data query then simply add a workbook.refreshall to the workbook_open sub.

Thanks for your reply Rekragisao. Up until now all the links are directly linked with the other workbooks (not making use of the data query).

Is there a way around it, or it is suggested to use the data query?

The only way to update data when linking directly to a different workbook is by opening the referenced workbook. A way to do this at every opening of your workbook is to write a macro that opens all workbooks on the open event, but this could be heavy on the users computer depending on its specs. using one or multiple data queries seems like the smartest move here.
