open an Excel File from Teams into the Desktop App

    Morning,

I've not had to work with Teams for files but a colleague has asked for some help and I'm struggling with google.

Basically, within MS Teams the file will open inside the web app. If you copy a link to that file then it works for sending to people to open but you can't use it within Excel VBA. There is a second link to a Sharepoint URL which works in VBA in terms of opening the Sharepoint view of the file but it won't actually open the workbook in the Desktop App.

Essentially he wants to copy a range from a worksheet from a file on Teams.

Any help on this greatly appreciated.

    Regards

    Dave

OK so I've figured out how to do this and ultimately Teams is a front end view for Sharepoint (not quite that simple but for the purpose of this). You can find the path to the sharepoint version of the file from Teams (click the three dots next to the file). Once you have the sharepoint address you can edit this to open the file you want. If you're a bit loose with typing the path to a web URL then if you right click and chose to Open In App then you should get a notification before it opens to ask you to allow. At this stage it will show the address, you'll just need to remove the text on the right before the //http:/
