Can excel talk to non MS-Office programs?

Hello Guys,

So, we do this manual thing everyday.
We have an excel with a number of number which are identifiers of some sort. We take these numbers individually and copy it to a program and save the output for further processing. What I want to do is to write a macro to be able to do this. Copy one of the numbers, go to the program, paste the data there and save the output.

Is it possible?
Any ideas?

Depends on the program. Does it support COM Add-in/API? Can you see it in the list of references within the VBA editor?

Some programs are quite easy to do things with from excel, others only have very limited functionality.

It depends to be dependant on the program - is there specific programs you are looking at? Some have an API/developer reference but they vary in usefulness. These tend to be the best place to start.
