    Absolute reference in table, structured reference

    I'm trying to do a running total in an excel table, which need to be locked horizontally,

    But I'm having trouble absoluting when dragged across to get different criteria, I've attached a sample.

    Don't drag, copy and paste instead.

    This is why I HATE, HATE, HATE Excel Tables...

    =SUMIFS(INDEX(Table1[[Unit]:[Unit]],1):INDEX(Table1[[Unit]:[Unit]],ROWS(I$4:I4)),INDEX(Table1[[Item]:[Item]],1):INDEX(Table1[[Item]:[Item]],ROWS(I$4:I4)),I$3,INDEX(Table1[[Date]:[Date]],1):INDEX(Table1[[Date]:[Date]],ROWS(I$4:I4)),">"&EOMONTH(Table1[@[Date]:[Date]],-1))

    @Glenn

    you don't need to use structural formula, just right click - Table - Convert to Range and you will see normal formula, or you can create it
    but it only works one way
    Formula: copy to clipboard

    then you can back with Ctrl+T but formula will stay the same

    Sandy, no actually. If I was going to use regular cell references (which is what I would ALWAYS use), I'd use:

    =SUMIFS($F$4:F4,$E$4:E4,I$3,$D$4:D4,">"&EOMONTH($D4,-1))

    Re: Absolute reference in table, structured reference

    but you can do that, Convert table to Range, use/create your formula and then use Ctrl+T to back to the Excel Table, formula will work as you wish
    by the way I use Tables for PQ but don't use worksheet formulas for the same reason as you

    I know how you feel, I haven't dissected the formula yet. I like the look of using index as it's something I've resorted to in the past as an alternative to using double square bracket ,

    I'll mark this up as closed as I don't think I want any more anwers.

    good idea but I really wanted to solve the problem rather than work around it.
