    Using Outlook for email and Gmail as the client, seeing Outlook Contacts on my iPhone

    I have an iPhone 13. My new company uses a Gmail email client to take care of emails. We have Office 365 and I like to use Outlook to handle the incoming/outgoing emails. Others in the office use this as well. So Outlook acts as the "skin" for Gmail. I like the way Outlook takes care of Contacts vs how they are done in Gmail so I've imported my contacts to Outlook. However, when I try to add my Outlook to my contacts on my iPhone, I can't. Usually it would be a simple add with Outlook Exchange, but this isn't an Exchange server that's hosting. It's Gmail. Is there a way to make this work?

    Thanks,
    Jim

    "However, when I try to add my Outlook to my contacts on my iPhone" What steps are you taking to try this?

    I'm a little unclear as what you are trying to do. Is this whole discussion about your iPhone, or are you mixing Windows desktop use with iPhone use in your description? When you say that Outlook is the "skin" for email (I think you mean "client") are you talking about using the Outlook app on your iPhone?

    If you are trying to sync contacts through Outlook it won't happen because you are not using Exchange, as you said. There might be a way to export contacts from your desktop Outlook to your iPhone Outlook, but you would probably have to repeat the process frequently to keep the iPhone up to date.

    Gmail is happier when you are using Google apps for it. If you are using the Outlook app on your phone, you may want to consider using Google's mail app instead.

    I use Outlook on my desktop as an IMAP client for Gmail (as well as POP/SMTP for other accounts). I use Google Mail on my Android phone (I don't have an iPhone). I use Outlook because I prefer a desktop client vs. a web client when I'm on Windows.

    What is it you like about Outlook contacts vs. Gmail contact management? Frankly I think Outlook contact management is not that great.

    Re: Using Outlook for email and Gmail as the client, seeing Outlook Contacts on my iPhone

    Jeff,
    Sorry if my verbiage is a bit rudimentary. I'm not a strong Outlook user. I'll do my best to clarify.

    I know you said you use Android so the iPhone interface may be different. But on iPhone, under the Contacts portion, you can add "accounts". I currently have my iCloud account, and two Gmail accounts. One is my personal and one is for my professional emails that are my personal use. But prior to that, I had my Outlook contacts from work as an account as well. This was done by using the Outlook Exchange so it was fairly easy. That company was using an Exchange server though. My new company is not. They have basically everything cloud based on both DropBox and Gmail. So our company email uses Gmail as it's web client even though my company email does not end in @gmail.com. But I've been very used to using Outlook for many years so I'd like to continue to use that if possible. As a result, I've kept all my contacts in Outlook for my office work. But if I need to see them in my contact list on my phone (maybe to call while mobile or to use their address for Google maps) then I would need to have the Outlook email/contacts come across on my mobile as well. I don't seem to be able to add the Outlook since it's not Exchange based. Or is this a lack of my knowledge on how to do so?

    Maybe I'll be forced to keep all my work contacts on the Gmail contacts format so I can view them. If so, better to start this now then to have to migrate a bunch over at a later date.

    Thank you,
    Jim

    Your company probably has a Google business account which allows you to use gmail but with your own domain name. Both my kids' universities did the same thing.

    This page from Microsoft says that Outlook on multiple devices cannot sync contacts, calendar, tasks, and notes across devices, unless you are using an Exchange server.

    You can export contacts out of Outlook in csv or pst file. What I don't know is if you can import them to Outlook on an iPhone. But as I mentioned, this is a manual process that you would have to repeat to keep your contacts up to date.

    I have been trying to add a square bullet using a script in front of a field using;
    if Field?Certification 1? == ""
    return "";
    else
    return "<p>" Field?Certification 1? "</p>";

    Is this format not supported? Im still learning javascript & I may be a little lost with this.
