Start typing from left hand side? (Within Cell)

Is there any ways to make it so when you start typing, the numbers start from the left hand side of your custom format?

Basically I want to make a cell that has a job number, but I want it to be able to have a total of 5 changeable numbers.

I want the last one to be unnecessary, so I can make a job number that goes up above 99, but only shows itself after I have past that threshold.

    IE.)

    Custom Format is

    00-00#

If I type 0101 it shows

    01-01

which leaves the last value blank.

Basically it's so I can put a client ID in the first two 0's and a job number in the second two 0's, then if the job list gets long enough for that year, it allows me to expand beyond 99 jobs in a year for that one company.

All of my examples will look the same.

I more or less just want to start my data input using the leftmost 0, then have the option of leaving the # sign blank instead of being forced to use it as a zero.

Ah. No, that won't work. The octothorpe () suppresses display of unneeded digits at the left of the number or the right of the decimal.
