Conditional Formatting if cell matches the total of other cells.

It feels like this is a common question, but I've spent an hour googling and found answers to different questions, so clearly I'm using the wrong keywords.

Basically, what I need is a way to format the color of the left-most cell based on if it's equal to the total of the cells on the right.

Sorry if this is a beginner question, but for the life of me I can't find the right keyword search to find the answer.

I'm sure it involves clicking the Conditional Formatting button, pasting a formula, then right-clicking the cell and dragging it and clicking FILL FORMATTING ONLY, but I've spent over an hour googling this myself and can't find the step-by-step instructions (forum or video).

I'm presuming that's a typo given the colouring you show and you meant you want to colour cells that are NOT equal to the sum of the cells on the right.

    Try the CF in A1

    Formula: copy to clipboard

set whatever formatting you want and apply it to the column A range

If there are more cells to the right then change $F1 accordingly. If the range of cells to sum varies from row to row with numbers after the end of a run separated by a blank cell that you DON'T want to count then the formula would need modofying.

your showing a fill colour whens its not equal to

I have used fill if it DOES =
    in conditional formatting
    =AND($A1<>"",$A1=SUM($B1:$F1))

    for 2007, 2010 , 2013 or 2016 excel version
    Conditional Formatting

    Highlight applicable range >>

    A:A

Home Tab >> Styles >> Conditional Formatting
New Rule >> Use a formula to determine which cells to format
Edit the Rule Description: Format values where this formula is true:

    =AND($A1<>"",$A1=SUM($B1:$F1))

    FormatÖ [Number, Font, Border, Fill]
choose the format you would like to apply when the condition is true
    OK >> OK

You're both right. That was a typo.

I actually did want a Conditional Formula that highlights when the cell does NOT equal the total cells on the right.

I figured an eye-catching Yellow floodfill would catch my attention better if something was wrong, instead of if everything was right.

    Sorry! My bad.
