Excel won't open on double click

For some reason, Excel won't open when I double click the file, either as an email attachment or in the folder on the hard drive. I get the following message:

In order to open an excel file, I have to first open excel then use the open menu command and then it opens as expected

any solutions to this? I am using Office 2007

This sounds like a file association problem. Open Windows Explorer, find an Excel file and right click on it and choose Open With and choose Excel from the list. Select the box for Always Use then click OK.

Have you tried repairing Office through the Windows Control Panel?

No options to repair in Control Panel but tried it with the installation CD. No joy.

Mno and the installation itself was done quite some time ago but the roblem only started a few weeks ago without any changes having been made.

Is Windows up to date? A few weeks ago Microsoft released a bad update that messed up systems in various ways. An update to fix this has been issued.

Re: Excel won't open on double click

I found this as a possible cure from https://social.technet.microsoft.com...um=officeitpro

If it only happens for Excel file, please try this:

File > Options > Advanced > General Section > Tick the option "Ignore other application that use Dynamic Data Exchange"

It is only in Excel; where do I find the items above. They are not in Folder Options.

Re: Excel won't open on double click

If you set up another account on your computer with the same privilege level, does Excel and double clicking work? If it does, then your present account is corrupted.
