    Analysing and Interpreting Data

    Evening all,

I'm new here so permit me to start by apologising if I am posting this in the wrong section.

    On with the show.

Attached to this post is some data that I am trying to analyse and interpret to present to my Operations Manager at work.

For you to better understand my request it would be prudent for me to explain what the data actually is and what it represents by explaining where I use it whilst working.

As a supervisor in an electronic manufacturing company, in my job role one of the things I am tasked with is to find new ways to identify performance issues with the employees who report to me. One of the things I am looking at is how much stock is wasted on a weekly basis by the production teams. In raw data, this is achieved by the use of requisition forms that I have designed. The idea behind this is that when an operator has run out of a certain component, they fill in a requisition form and hand it to the warehouse department. The form will contain certain information such as the name of the operator, the type of component they are requesting, the reason they are requesting more (lost, damaged, not enough issued to them to start with, etc) and the department within production that the operator is from.

What I would eventually love to be able to see is a breakdown of the raw data. Ideally I would like it to be able to show how many times an operator is losing parts, damaging parts, or whether not enough are being supplied to them in the first place. (based on the columns in the spreadsheet)

The problem is that I've tried a few different graphs and charts but I am not familiar with customising them to show the information I want.

It could be that Excel is not the tool to use for this but any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    Best regards.

Edit: For Data Protection I have changed each of the operators names into a letter of the alphabet. Normally these letters would be an actual name.

Have you considered using a table? You can select the different data type(s) from the header dropdown(s).

You don't have to add Rep if I have helped you out (but it would be nice), but please mark the thread as SOLVED if your issue is resolved.

I had considered using a table. The only issue that I've found is that I would have to filter each operator individually to see what they are wasting and how much, and I would ideally like all of this information presented to me at once. I tried using a pivot table, too, but it did not have the effect I had hoped for either.

    Thanks for your initial response.

Sorry I am not an expert on the forum, only another member looking for help too.

Have you tried a pivot table? For me, without re-arranging my data manually, it is the quickest way to see data in a table form and easy to add a graph.

I would love to add the file I just quickly did, but it seems that it will not let me.

    Re: Analysing and Interpreting Data

    Edit: That's the ticket!

    Brilliant. Thanks a bunch.

How did you do this? When I tried to do this it just threw up all of the information in a totally complex and different way.

Yes, it went through. I saved it so that I can go through it and learn how to do that myself. Not sure if this will be useful to OP, but I like it for work that I do.
