    Excel File showing extension error

Today, I opened an Excel file and got the error message related to file extension issue. I did not change any extension then why I am getting it?

    Here is the complete message:
Excel cannot open this file 'officedata.xlsx' because the file format or the file extension is not valid. Verify that the file has not been corrupted and that the file extension matches the format of the file.

    Thank you

    Regards
    Robin

Re: Excel File showing extension error

You might get this if someone has changed the extension of a file from say 'csv' to 'xlsx' to make it into what they think will be an Excel workbook.

Try changing the name and see if it will open.

Have you tried opening the file on another computer?
