when opening an xlsb file I get the message "Excel has stopped working!!"

I saved a large file without macros as an xlsb file to reduce the file size. Now when I try to reopen it I get the message "Excel has stopped working", it then tries to recover the file and shuts down completely. Any ideas on how to recover this file? Thanks for your help.

I probably could however I have heard that that won't work. If I don't get a better answer I will give it a try and let you know.

Try a repair of MS Office. If that doesn't work, an uninstall, cleanup and re-install may be necessary.

Its not a repair or reinstall issue. That has all been tried before by various users. It has to do with something within the file itself. I have no idea what it is but this particular file can not be reopened when it has been saved as an xlsb file. I wish I knew what is incompatable with the xlsb format but I haven't been able to find anything that gives me any clues.
