Question Excel 365 VBA "Insert" menu greyed out

    hi

trying to use VBA on excel 365, I have opened the sheet on desktop app to access the developer tab but when I go into VBA and insert module everything is greyed out, I've checked protection there is none, the file is macro enabled, don't know what else I can check so as to allow me to add a VBA module.

    Thanks

It's better to attach the actual screenshot rather than a file that we have to download to see it. I have done this for you. --6StringJazzer

Re: Excel 365 add a module access greyed out

There are no windows evident in this screenshot. The title bar of the window does not show a file name. Even a file with no code has at least a module for each worksheet by default. It appears that you do not have a file open. We may need a little more information about where the file is stored and the steps you took to open this file.

Is this problem specific to one file, or does it happen for any Excel file? If it's only one file, please attach the file for further review.

Re: Excel 365 add a module access greyed out

    Hi
it's an excel 365 file and I have tried other similar files and they function okay, so I'm not sure why this one doesn't, all the files are stored the same way and when any adjustments are made the file is opened via the desktop app which outwith this particular file they all offer the same functionality with regards to using VBA

    Thanks
    Peter

Can you upload a (redacted) copy of the file so we can check and test theories.

What's under the file menu? 1st item should be Save which might tell you the file name.

Does pressing Ctrl+R bring up the Project Explorer?

Does anything appear if you record a macro from the Developer tab?

Re: Excel 365 VBA "Insert" menu greyed out

I can't help feeling there must be some corruption present here. As far as I know, I cannot get the VBE to be open without an Excel document open at the same time. As soon as I close the last workbook, the VBE gets closed down too. So, the fact that no file name is shown is odd.

If the advice that you have been given so far doesn't work, I would try copying all the worksheets to a new workbook and starting from there. If there are links between sheets you might need to edit/update them to point to the new document.

As I suggested before, a copy of the (redacted) file would help us to investigate.
